Yukata in Season for Summer 2018 at Isetan Shinjuku
The heat of summer has started to climb in Tokyo, and with it comes festivals, fireworks, and no end of opportunities to wear yukata! The city's sultry summer nights are a perfect pairing, and you are sure to spot plenty of fashionistas enjoying a night on the town in traditional Japanese fashion.
It is important to remember that, while traditional, kimono and yukata are still very much an enduring part of Japanese--and Tokyo--fashion. We have invited some of the most subversive forces in contemporary yukata to take to The Stage on the first floor of the Main Building to show you the here and now of yukata fashion. Featuring designers such as Rumi Rock, Kisaburo, tutaee, and Torie, the exhibition offers complete yukata coordinates perfect to wear around Shinjuku. Whether for a trip to nearby Hanazono Jinja Shrine or the countless old-school bars that dot the Shinjuku area, you are sure to find a fashion-forward look that is right for you.
Elsewhere, the Isetan Yukata Selection kicks off in July for a celebration of classic, contemporary, and creative yukata for all tastes. The core women's lineup is divided into classic, feminine, and charismatic motifs, and there is plenty for men and kids to enjoy, too. Beyond the yukata themselves, there are also hair adornments, bags, geta sandals, umbrellas and parasols, and even traditional uchiwa fans to keep the heat of the summer at bay.
Year round, you can shop a huge range of yukata at the Gofuku kimono section on the seventh floor of the Main Building. Our staff will be happy to advise experts and novices alike on how to keep their yukata style on trend.
