Nihombashi Mitsukoshi In Bloom for the Edo Sakura Matsuri

139_01.jpgSignaling the start of spring the sakura season is with us once again, an important time for Nihombashi Mitsukoshi Main Store as well as the Nihombashi area as a whole which has enjoyed a vibrant history as a destination for hanami blossom viewing since Edo era Japan. 139_02.jpgFor the store itself, the northern perimeter of the main building is bordered by the aptly named Edo Sakura-doori street which has been a popular sakura viewing spot throughout much of the store's history, making this a particularly significant celebration in our annual calendar. It is a tradition, but like the sakura itself one in a state of constant renewal, the focal point of this year's festivities being a viewing of said sakura but illuminated at night, transforming the street into an unmissable photo opportunity.

Elsewhere this theme of revisiting tradition is to be found throughout the store. On the eighteenth of March flower head dresser TAKAYA will be putting on a live presentation of his work by the Lion Entrance and continue on to dress a window display. In the Central Hall, high school students will be putting on a live sakura themed calligraphy performance on a grand scale. Meanwhile at the entrance of the Annex we will be holding a charity drive until March twentieth, for the important reforestation work in the Tohoku region of Japan where every donation of 300 yen will be met with a wooden sakura themed donguri badge to show your support.
